FAQ

What is DomainMetaData?

DomainMetaData provides one of the most comprehensive publicly available databases of internet domains. We aggregate data from public DNS zone files, web crawlers, and machine learning to deliver fresh, structured domain lists — updated multiple times daily and available in CSV format.

Does DomainMetaData contain all registered domains?

No public database contains 100% of all registered domains. Some registrars and TLDs do not publish full zone files, and private registrations are often hidden.

We combine data from multiple sources to deliver one of the most comprehensive and up-to-date domain datasets available — making it the best public source for tracking domain activity at scale.

How fresh is the data?

Newly registered domains from the generic TLDs (.com, .net, .org, .biz, etc.) are typically available within a few hours. Domains from country code TLDs (.de, .fr, .co.uk, etc.) are much harder to discover. They typically take a couple of days or weeks to appear (usually shortly after the website goes live). The full database is refreshed multiple times daily, ensuring high accuracy and low latency.

How often is the domain database updated?

Multiple times per day. Changes are detected as soon as they appear in public sources — typically within hours of registration.

Can I download a list of registered domains?

Yes. You can download extensive lists of registered and active domains, including popular TLDs like .com, .net, .org, and country-specific domains like .de, .fr, and .co.uk. While no public dataset is 100% complete, ours is among the most comprehensive available.

Do you offer historical domain data?

Yes. Our dataset includes historical domain records, allowing you to track domain lifecycle changes, study internet growth, and analyze long-term trends.

What file format are the domain lists available in?

All domain lists are provided in CSV format — ready for instant integration with analytics tools, databases, and custom workflows.

Can I filter the domain data by TLD or country?

Yes. You can filter by specific TLDs (e.g., .com, .de) or country to access only the data relevant to your needs.

Who uses DomainMetaData?

Our data is used by SEO professionals, marketers, cybersecurity teams, brand protection agencies, and researchers who need timely domain insights for lead generation, threat detection, and market analysis.

Can I use DomainMetaData for lead generation?

Yes. Recruiters and sales teams use our data to find fast-growing startups and tech companies early — often before they appear on LinkedIn or job boards.

How can I use the domain data for SEO?

SEO professionals use our data to analyze website trends, discover expired high-authority domains, track new competitors, and monitor brand risks.

How does the service help with cybersecurity?

Cybersecurity teams use our lists to detect phishing domains, identify malicious registrations, and monitor emerging threats — often within hours of a domain going live.

What are "active" domains?

Active domains have at least one DNS record configured and are reachable on the internet.

How do you find new domains?

We use three methods:

How can I prevent my domain from being crawled?

Add a robots.txt file to your site with disallow rules for our crawler. Note: this only affects web crawling — not DNS-based discovery.

Can I track new domain registrations daily?

Yes. We provide daily and multi-daily lists of newly discovered domains — perfect for monitoring internet activity and identifying emerging trends.
